Last Day of Kindergarten!

 Lexi's first year in elementary school seems like it just flew by.  I got a little teary-eyed when I dropped her off at school for the last time (well, until August).  She has matured so much this year.  She's always been a compassionate and loving little girl.  This year I've seen her grow academically and emotionally.  She's able to express herself in new ways.  It was really fun to look over her writing from the beginning of the year and then compare that to the end.  She's reading and writing independently and it seemed that each month her spelling improved.  She loves to do math in her head (she probably got that from her mom) and she's a great problem-solver.  By the end of the years she had 3's (the highest you can get) in every area.  Yes, I'm shamelessly bragging about my little girl.

The picture on the left is the last day of Kindergarten and the picture on the right is the first day.  She looks so much older to me.  It makes me a little sad.

After school, Matt asked Lexi what she wants to be when she grows up.  She answered, "A swim instructor."  I think the fact that she is really loving swim lessons these days may have something to do with that answer.  It will be interesting to ask her that question at the end of each year and see how her answer changes.  So far this year she's wanted to be a ballerina, doctor, coat designer, and now swim instructor.

We also put together some gifts for Lexi's teachers.  They each got a beach towel, sunscreen, and a handmade card.  We hope everyone has a great Summer.

Field Day 2012

Follow the Yellow Brick Road

On Friday afternoon, we decorated Lexi's teacher's door for teacher appreciation week.  The theme this year was "There's No Place Like Timber Creek."  Unfortunately, our artistic talents were lacking and this was about the best we could manage.

 Later in the evening we went to watch "The Wizard of Oz" performed by Trilogy School of the Arts.  We didn't take any pictures of the actual show, but Lexi was able to track down her favorite characters for pictures.  She loved the play so much.

 She also wanted to snap a picture of her program. 

Happy Valentine's Day

We attempted some Valentine's pictures before we headed out the Valentine's banquet at Nana's church.  These were about the best we could manage.

Then we headed out to Louisburg to celebrate Valentine's Day with the family.

We decorated Lexi's Valentine's box at home this year and she loved it.

 Jayvan and I went to Lexi's Valentine's party.  This ended up being a really cute owl that I forgot to take a picture of.

 The kids played pin the heart on the bear.

 They also played a marshmallow toss game, but I think they were more interested in eating the marshmallows.

 Jayvan had fun at the party too.

Pride Night

Lexi's school had a pride night where we were able to go around to all of her special classes and see what she has been doing in person.  We admired her masterpieces.

 We stopped in to listen to Jade play her recorder.

 This was Lexi's latest art masterpiece.  It is a heart-filled fish swimming in a colorful ocean.

It was so nice to hear from all of Lexi's teachers.  She got rave reviews from everyone.

Kindergarten Winter Party

Lexi's class had their Winter Party and I volunteered to organize a game.  We did a marshmallow relay.  The kids also played pin-the-tail on Rudolph, made some ornament crafts, and had some snacks.  Daddy, Nana, and Aunt Ashley also came to the party and surprised Lexi.

50's Party

To celebrate the 50th day of school, Lexi's class had a 50's party.  Matt, Jayvan and I came to help with the party.  To be honest, Jayvan wasn't much help.

 I helped make the root beer floats and supervise some coloring.  Lexi didn't care for the floats, but the girl can color with the best of them.

 Matt helped cut out the poodles for the kids to decorate.  He looked really excited about it.

 The kids also made little gumball machines.  Toward the end of the party, I took a picture of Lexi with her mask.  This had absolutely nothing to do with the 50's party, except that I took the picture at the party.

Parent-Teacher Conference

We had Lexi's first parent-teacher conference on Tuesday night.  We got her first report card last week.  Her school uses a 1-2-3 system.  1 means that the student still needs a lot of work in that area.  2 means that they are progressing in that area, but still need a little work.  3 means that they have mastered those skills.  Lexi got all 2's & 3's.  One thing that she got a 2 on was "listens in class."  I asked her about it and she replied, "Yeah.  I could probably use a little work on that."  At least she's honest.

That being said, Lexi's teacher had nothing but great things to say about her.  I feel so blessed to have such a kind child and a great school for her to attend.  We looked at her MAP test scores and while she could use some improvement in the Math section, her reading scores were exceptional.  It will be interesting to see how the scores change in the Spring.

How did my baby girl get so big all of the sudden?

How do you remember?

This morning Lexi asked if I wanted to hear her Months-of-the-Year song.  Of course I did.  So she sang it wonderfully.  Then she asked, "Do you know how I remember the months so well?"

"Well, I guess because they are in a song and that makes it easier to remember."

She replied, "No Mom.  I remember them in my brain."

Duh.

She went on to say that Mrs. Richardson (her teacher) also remembers things because they are in her brain.

Good to know.

Star of the week

Lexi was the star of the week in her classroom. 

On Monday she took in all of the pictures and information about her favorites.  She said she wants to be a ballerina when she grows up.  I told her that she should probably go back to dance class if she wants to be a ballerina.  She said, "Nevermind.  I'll just be a doctor."
On Tuesday she took her favorite book to share with the class. She chose Inside Your Outside. She said that none of her friends had read it before and they really liked it.
On Wednesday she got to take her favorite stuffed animal, which was her ladybug pillow pet.
On Thursday she got to sit at the teacher's desk during morning activity.
On Friday she got to bring something for show and tell.  She chose her brother. Awe...

This was the dream

Literally.  This was the dream I had a few years ago.  I was walking my daughter to kindergarten and I was pushing the stroller with a baby inside.  I knew the baby was my baby, but I knew he didn't come from my body.  My dreams literally came true today.
