A Mustache Party

We decided to do a mustache theme for Jayvan's first birthday.  Lexi made this sign for the occasion.
 We stocked up on supplies.
His teachers from school made him a card as well.

We set up a little photo booth, so everyone could rock their 'staches.

I cut fruit up in the shape of mustaches.
The kids played "Pin-the-Mustache-On-Jayvan."  Aiden won.  Lexi and Mia gave Jayvan an impressive unibrow.
Jayvan tore into his presents with the help of his sister and cousin.
Aunt Ashley made these superhero dolls by hand.  I was seriously impressed.  If I ever get Jayvan's room decorated, these will go great with the theme.

Jayvan loved his new swing from Nana.

We ordered his cake from Costco and I added some chocolate mustaches.

He stared at Lexi the whole time we sang Happy Birthday.
Then he started to dig in.
I think he loved it! (I cannot get these pictures to upload correctly to save my life!)

This resulted in a quick hose-down in the kitchen sink.

Jayvan had a wonderful first birthday.  Thank you to all of our friends and family for making it such a special day.

Jayvan's First Royals Game

We decided to take Jayvan to his first Royals game.  It was so fun to watch his reaction to everything.  When people around us clapped, he joined in.  Even though it was a little chilly, we all had a blast.

Lexi's favorite part of the Royals games is the outfield experience.  Go figure.
I remember a few years ago when I had to hold her hand while she climbed on this equipment.  Now she is off on her own.  Our girl is getting so big.

We rode the carousel and a friend of ours snapped a picture for us.

Then she pretended to take a bite out of this big cone.
The Royals lost (no surprise).

Mama!

Jayvan said the precious little word! Matt had taken him outside on Sunday, April 1.  He crawled back toward the front door and said, "Mama."  Be still my heart.

Oh yeah, he's crawling too. :)

7 Months Old

Seven whole months have come and gone since we met the little man who would steal all of our hearts.  For some reason, this month is hitting me a little harder than past months.  He is officially closer to his first birthday than he is to his birth.  It seems silly, but I'm teary just thinking about him getting bigger and bigger.

The little dude still won't smile for the camera very often, but he is indeed a very happy little guy.  He loves to roll around and play with his toys.  He has started pulling himself up and scooting, but crawling is still in the works.  He's started eating some solids and he's pretty fond of sweet potatoes, but oatmeal was not a favorite.  He still only has the two bottom teeth.

I think we are ready to concede that his first word is "Baba" for his bottles.  Most parents I know have a friendly rivalry over whether the baby will say Mama or Dada first.  We both lost out to food.

His sissy loves him more than ever and she never passes up an opportunity to snuggle with him

Not a Fan

Jayvan is officially not a fan of oatmeal, which is unfortunate, because Lexi and I eat it frequently for breakfast.

Now Two Teeth!

On the last day that Lexi can say, "We're both five (five months and five years)," Jayvan got his second tooth.  He now has both bottom teeth, but he is still a bit shy about showing them off.  Lexi says, "They are pretty little and need to grow some more."

Five Months and Jayvan's First Snow

Jayvan didn't really think much of the snow, but our first little dusting of snow happened to coincide with his five month birthday.

At five months, Jayvan is sitting more on his own, holding onto his toys, grabbing anything in his reach, rolling from belly to back proficiently, and giggling a lot.  He is such a happy boy.

Hayride at Shawnee Mission Park

A friend of ours organized a group hayride through Shawnee Mission Park.  It was a beautiful night with great friends.  It was Jayvan's first hayride.  All of the kids had a great time playing in the dirt and we all enjoyed some s'mores and apple cider.
