Powder Puff Derby

A few of the girls from Lexi's Daisy troop participated in the Powder Puff Derby.  It was fun to see Lexi and Matt bonding over a little wooden car.  Lexi's car may not have won, but we had a great time.  Matt's already strategizing for next year. She named her car the Pink Streak (#22).

Trimming the Tree

I think that trimming the tree is one of Lexi's favorite parts of the Christmas season.  I love it too.  It is like a trip down memory lane every year.

Luminary Walk

We decided to bundle up at head out to the Luminary walk at the Arboretum.  It was such a fun event.  They light candles throughout the woods.  There are carolers, bonfires, hot cider, Santa, trains, and even Elvis.  My camera battery died, but I did get some more photos on my phone.  I just have to figure out how to get them up on the blog.

Making Mini Snow Globes

We participate in an ornament swap with a local parenting group each year.  This year we decided to make mini water-less snow globes for one of our ornaments.  Lexi was my lovely assistant.

I managed to get all of the labels and glue off of the babyfood jars by using hot water and elbow grease.  I'm sure goof-off would have been easier, but I was trying to avoid using chemicals.
We painted the lids using a sharpie paint pen.  It took a few coats.
Then we used hot glue to adhere the miniature snowmen and little pine trees.  I found these at Hobby Lobby.  The snowmen were ornaments for miniature trees, and I just cut the string off.  The little trees were in the dollhouse section.
I thought about trying to drill through the glass, but we decided against it and just hot glued the ribbon as you see here:

 Lexi made a sign.
I used these ecoflurries for the snow.  It is definitely not compatible with an water-filled snow globe.  It turns kind of slimy when water touches it.
Here are our finished products.  I think they turned out great.

Paradise Park

On National Adoption Day we met up with some of our friends at Paradise Park.  We had never been there before and it was a lot of fun.  If we lived closer I would get a membership.

 Happy National Adoption Day!
